    Power of FRIENDs

I feel blessed to have the most amazing friends.

When I have felt unable to pursue my goals, they cheered me on; when I have strayed and become distracted, they aligned me and put me back on the right path. I love that the relationship I have built with my friends have allowed them to be firm, yet loving and this has given me the right environment to thrive. Sadly, this is not the experience of many I know. In fact it seems a lot of us have had our fingers burnt by so-called friends and have become sceptical of building friendship – please don’t.

There is strength in great friendships and when I was asked to be part of a panel to discuss friendship a few months back, I realised just how important the subject is and the importance of having great friends.

One key thing stood out as I pondered this topic a lot more is that by being a great friend, you can begin to inspire people to be great friends to you too. Imagine seeing a reflection of yourself in a mirror and judge yourself as a friend. What do you see in yourself? What are you reflecting? Have you been a great friend to those in your world? Can you inspire your friends to be better by the choices you make? It is true that people mirror back to us what they see and the way to help your friends become better is to choose to become better yourself.

I wrote this acronym to suggest ideas on how to be a great friend and I hope as you read, you hear my heart, act differently with those you know and become a better friend. Enjoy!

    • Fun – be guaranteed to make him/her laugh.
    • Respect – be respectful of his/her beliefs and values
    • Intercede – pray for him/her and hear God give you specific instructions to help him/her
    • Encourage – be the one that champions him/her to be the best version of themselves
    • Nurture – be there to support when down and protect
    • Dependable – be the one he/she can count on

Have you been a good friend? Could you be a better friend? Why not make today the day you begin to strengthen the friendships you’ve got and benefit from lifelong impact

  • PASS IT ON : Part of the ‘GAP’ Series

P – is for PASS IT ON.

We need this series with the letter P for ‘Pass it on’. 2 months ago I formed a new habit of asking myself ‘who needs this?’ whenever I got the privilege of being blessed with money, information or anything. (more…)

  • YET : Part of the ‘WAY’ Series

    Y – YET

It’s the last letter in this series of attitudes I have adopted in the past couple of weeks

    • W for Write
    • A for Act and
    • Y for Yet!

Yes you got that right… I love the word YET because it puts an emphasis on HOPE. Think of these 2 statements – ‘I haven’t made any sales today’ and ‘I haven’t made any sales today, yet’. (more…)

  • ORDERLINESS : Part of the ‘TOP’ Series

    Orderliness

A while back I saw a bumper sticker that read ‘I’m too lazy to be disorganised, being organised makes my life easy’. How profoundly true is that? Many of us struggle with setting up and subsequently maintaining some order in our day to day life but wouldn’t you agree with me that when you finally get round to doing it, our lives run so much smoother. (more…)

  • TENACITY : Part of the ‘TOP’ Series

    Tenacity

In my Mary Kay world, things are going quite well, thank God. I have now become used to people saying to me ‘you don’t have to worry about that, after all you are a ‘TOP’ director…’. I believe hearing this so often is the reason I have the word TOP so strong on my mind. I found myself asking, ‘What keeps you at the TOP of your game?’ in this series, which I promise to try to keep at 1minute each, I will be talking about how to get to and stay on TOP.

Today’s letter is T, T for Tenacity! What comes to mind when you hear that word? I guess its dictionary time. The dictionary says tenacity is the quality of holding on, holding together, cohesive and not being easily pulled apart. Even as I write, I am encouraged by the strength depicted by this word.

I see Tenacity as the glue that holds you to your dreams. The reality is you can’t really reach the top of your industry/field if you don’t have the give-it-all-I‘ve-got-at-all-cost attitude. When you start out with any goal, giving yourself a ‘no way out’ card, you find creative ways to make your dream become a reality. Stick to your goal and give it EVERYTHING and you have a chance at staying on TOP!

  • RESPECT : Part of the ‘STAR’ Series

Respect – my early years were spent in Nigeria, where respect meant a lot. For most families, you wouldn’t even dare to call your immediate older sibling by name, you will have to add some form of title. Moving to this side of the world, 16 years ago, I realised that respect as we typified it in Nigeria wasn’t quite the same. (more…)

  • ADVANCE : Part of the ‘STAR’ Series

Advance – next attitude is the choice to end each day knowing you have somewhat grown! One of the things I’m challenged at, besides sports is languages. I just can’t seem to get the words into my head and keep them there. So I find myself constantly attempting to speak a 2nd language and giving up 🙁 . (more…)

  • THANKFUL : Part of the ‘STAR’ Series

Thankful – I loooooove being thankful! From the time we wake up in the morning till we rest our head at night, we are constantly bombarded with demands on our emotions. Many times we let ourselves go off in a spiral of self-pity and feel irrelevant. (more…)

  • SERVE : Part of the ‘STAR’ Series

A couple of weeks back I attended a conference at the O2 and while waiting for the programme to begin, I asked myself one of those searching questions – ‘Doyin which qualities do you possess that’s makes you feel particularly able to take on the world?’ Yes I know, I am a random thinker, probably one of my most defining qualities actually 🙂 so I spent the next 5 minutes or so scribbling down attitudes of my heart that I find endearing… lol. (more…)

  • WHY : Part of the ‘FLY’ Series

    Why are you here?

One of the most poignant quotes I’ve ever heard is credited to the late Dr Myles Munroe – ‘When purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable’. Have you ever wondered WHY you are here on earth? What’s your purpose and what problem have you been assigned to solve? Recently, I’ve asked myself a lot of WHY questions? Why am I here? Why do I do what I do? Why do I believe what I believe so it’s no surprise I’ve somehow managed to find a way of getting it into my weekly chat? (more…)
