    GROW with Goals

You may remember that 2 months ago, I casually mentioned that I wanted to finish off my new book “GROW with Goals”. I’m pleased to say GROW with Goals is now on the book shelves and on Amazon (https://amzn.to/2Rtfqw0) and doing well too!

As we end this month, I would like to share a few things about the book with you. I wrote the book because I was starting to question the whole concept of goal-setting and the processes that lead to us achieving these set goals, that is, if we achieve them. I concluded that ‘Yes, goals are worth setting if they GROW us‘. While growing in the natural sense implies getting better, in the book, I also used GROW as an acronym to demonstrate the steps that make the achievement of goals happen.

The first step is ‘G for Goals‘ – and I teach on how to set goals that have a strong why. It also elaborates on how goals are more likely to be realised when they utilize most or all of our senses. After fine-tuning our goals, we then need to ask the ‘what’ question and detail all that is needed to achieve these set goals. That’s why the next letter is ‘‘R for Resource‘. Resourcing yourself is the process of knowing what is needed to achieve your goals and equipping yourself with it/them. Once these two processes are complete, we need to get our lives organised around the accomplishment of the goals we set. ‘O therefore represents Organisation‘. Your life, your activities must be in synergy with your goals. It has been said that ‘Those who changed the world started by mastering the art of making their bed’. An organised person will also find that they are blessed with the unique gift of realised goals. The acronym concludes with the letter ‘W for Work‘. Yes, to realise the dreams you set goals to achieve, you need to DO THE WORK! Every day, go to bed, knowing you gave it your best shot, knowing you moved closer to your goals because you did something about it.

I believe once we follow through with GROW instead of merely setting goals, we will ease the frustration from goal-setting and begin to thrive on the benefits.

    Growth

I love the definition of growth that refers to it as a positive change in size. In other words, when an item or a person grows, it is seen as a sign that the person is moving in a positive direction. Growth is always expected, growth is always celebrated and growth is a tangible representation of achievement or success. Today I would love to share with you how I grow…

  • G is for Goals. This is the first step in growing. You must set clear, specific, realistic and action-focused goals. Many goals never see the light of day because they are very general in nature and lack the specific focus to channel our energy to it. A goal that will be realised must be detailed and very specific.
  • R is for Resource. The next step to growing is to ensure you have all you need and all it takes to achieve your hearts desires. A GAP analysis is always a great place to start – ask yourself where you are now, where you want to go (based on your goals) and what you need to get there. Then RESOURCE yourself with all that is necessary to get there. Sometimes it might entail big commitments like returning to school or be as simple as reading a book. Whatever it takes, resource yourself to be the person that can do your goals.
  • O is for Organise. Not much can happen until you become organised for success. I have often referred to being organised as my biggest strength and I can guarantee you it has really helped me in juggling a lot of balls successfully. Becoming better organised starts with simple practices like sorting out your physical space, or, for the women, organising your bag etc. One thing is for sure – when you get organised, you achieve more.
  • Wis for Work. Work will win where wishing won’t. You must put in the work in to get the desired result. Set goals, resource yourself, become the most organised person and yet you still won’t make progress until you actually make time to do the work that is required by your goal. Being in business for a long time, I have seen people come in with the best ideas but very little discipline At the same time, I have seen others lacking ideas, but with exceptional work ethic. Guess who grows and makes the most progress? Of course it’s the person who does the work. Work is the treadmill to success and it is essential to make us GROW.
  • Work to PUSH the baby out : ‘GROW’ series

Which mother doesn’t remember this interesting phase of pregnancy? All I can say is whoever named the rooms ‘Labour ward’ knew exactly what they were saying. At some points in the process, I wasn’t even sure if I was on earth or heaven (in fact thinking about it, I must have been mid-way most of the time). Many times during the process, I gave up in my heart and only recommitted to the task, thanks to my amazing midwife and the ultimate desire to see the reality of my dreams. (more…)

  • Observe & Align : ‘GROW’ series

One thing I also remember from those pregnant days is the scans. This was all so new to me but exciting. I remember the anticipation at my first scan… my grandmother had multiple sets of twins and I wondered if I was having 1 baby or 2 babies…. Then I remembered as the foetus grew, the scans were now designed to check if there were any abnormalities I needed to be aware of. (more…)

  • Get Pregnant with Your Goal : ‘GROW’ series

The discomfort of pregnancy – the days of not being able to get up, the times of morning sickness and just the whole concept of not knowing what will happen tomorrow is nothing compared to the feeling of elation a woman experiences when the baby is finally born. Been there, done that and I can say without fail, the awkwardness of the pregnancy is nothing compared to holding your baby! (more…)

In England (and a few other countries), Mother’s day is celebrated in March; the shops are beautifully decorated and gifts jump out to you on shelves. Like Christmas and everything else, it’s become another ‘commercialised event’. This year, as we approach Mother’s day, I can’t help thinking about the invaluable lessons I have learnt by being a mother. In my opinion it’s the lesson of Conception to Birth. It’s what I call The Secret Growth; it’s the growth that you might not necessarily see but is mounting up to a tangible unveiling. My topic this series is around the discussions of the baby in the womb up until the time it is born! (more…)
